2023 Silverling Composition Competition Submissions
1. Eligibility
- Open to all composers regardless of age, nationality, gender, or genre of expertise
- Submit one or more compositions just by submitting another entry form
2. Submission Guidelines
- Music up to 10 minutes in length (though pieces close to this limit will be considered)
- Single Movement only, multiple movements will not be accepted
- Large Ensemble preferred, but solo and chamber music will not be eliminated solely due to instrumentation
- Music can be written for orchestra, band, or chorus, in any style or instrumentation
- Electronic and Electroacoustic (Hybrid) Music is accepted
- Music can be a previously performed piece, and there is no limit to the date it was composed
- Music should be an original composition, though highly original and creative arrangements will be considered
- Only music written by a single composer will be considered – no collaborations
3. Evaluation Criterion
- Harmonic Language
- Melodic/Motivic Development
- Orchestration
- Creativity
- Overall Aesthetic Quality
4. Entry Fee
- A non-refundable fee of $10 will be submitted for each entry
5. Submission Format
- Audio Recording in the form of mp3, WAV, AIFF, or other common filetype (required)
- PDF Score of the piece (preferred, but optional) – appearance of the score will not impact judging
- The audio recording should be a reasonable representation of the music (either a live performance or MIDI)
- There is no need to remove your name or other identifying characteristics from the score
- All entries should be submitted through the form at the top of this page – do not email submissions directly
6. Judges Panel
- 4 Judges will adjudicate the submissions based on the criterion listed above
- The Panel will consist of professionals with expertise in composition, orchestration, and ensemble conducting
- The decision of the panel of judges is final
- The winning composers will be announced December 25, 2023
7. Prizes
- The 1st Place winner will receive a $500 cash prize and a $2,500 voucher for any service from Silverling Virtual Studio
- The 2nd Place winner will receive a $100 cash prize and a $1,000 voucher for any service from Silverling Virtual Studio
- The 3rd Place winner will receive a $50 cash prize and a $500 voucher for any service from Silverling Virtual Studio
- All participants will receive a 25% discount on all music services from Silverling Virtual Studio, good through December 31, 2024
- Prizes are nontransferable

- Winning compositions will be considered for live performance in 2024 (based on difficulty and ensemble availability)
8. Deadline
- All entries must be submitted by November 30, 2023, end of day 11:59:59 PM (23:59:59) EST time zone
- Late submissions will not be accepted
9. Rights and Ownership
- All rights to the submitted music will remain with the composer (or other current copyright holder, such as a publisher)
- By submitting an entry, the composer agrees to have their name and submitted music shared for the purpose of announcing the winners
